At 10 sites in Lüneburg C. vulnerata could be found. Besides that, 3 new localities for Northern Germany are presented, as well as a distribution map of the species for this region, showing the northern border of its distribution.
In 1998 the adults of C. vulnerata could be found from 8th May to 2nd July at the Schildstein. The mating season, distuingishable by the calling of the insect, lasted from 16th May to 6th June. The observed copulae lasted up to 5 hours.
To estimate the size and distribution of the population at the Schildstein, the number of animals that occurred on Solidago canadensis are compared with the number of animals found on other plants. The result showed that the number of individuals feeding on S. canadensis was double that on the remaining vegetation (83:41).
The structure and frequency of the male mating song is described and
compared to other species of Cercopidae. The dominating frequencies of
the song of C. vulnerata lie between 40 and 300 Hz, with a maximum
at 65 Hz.
Bei Sichtbonituren an 3 Tagen konnten insgesamt 124 Individuen in 104 Minuten auf den 4 Untersuchungsflächen gezählt werden. Auffällig war eine doppelt so hohe Anzahl von Tiere an Solidago canadensis wie an der übrigen Vegetation. Inwieweit diese Präferenz einer Wirtspflanze mit der Arealerweiterung von C. vulnerata nach Norden zusammenhängen könnte, wird diskutiert.
Die Flugzeit dauerte am Lüneburger Schildstein 1998 vom 8. Mai bis zum 2. Juli. Die Werbungs- und Paarungszeit dauerte knapp einen Monat vom 16.5. bis 6.6.1998. Die Kopula vollzog sich stets über mehrere Stunden.
Der Werbegesang der Männchen wurde aufgezeichnet, seine Struktur
und Frequenzen analysiert und mit dem Gesang anderer Zikaden-Arten verglichen.
Es dominieren niedere Frequenzen zwischen 40 und 300 Hertz den trommelnden
Ruf von C. vulnerata, mit einem absoluten Maximum bei 65 Hertz.
